Welcome to Family Ministry!

Pope Benedict XVI describes the family as “the cell of communion on which society is founded, and called to reveal God’s love in the world.”
Benedict XVI: Address To Participants in the Forum of Family Associations

The department of Family Ministry develops and coordinates programs that empower families to realize their Catholic identity and mission as disciples of Jesus Christ. To achieve this goal we strive to be a support and resource for parishes by offering training, workshops and programs in the various areas of family ministry.

The inclusive lens of family ministry enables each of us whether involved in parish or diocesan ministry to support all family members-young families, single parents, grandparents, widows and widowers, divorced and separated individuals, empty nest couples, engaged and newly married couples, seniors, singles and families in crisis. We are reminded of this vision to form a community of life and love through the following words written by John Paul II.

“It must be emphasized once more that the pastoral intervention of the Church in support of the family is a matter of urgency. Every effort should be made to strengthen and develop pastoral care for the family, which should be treated as a real matter of priority, in the certainty that future evangelization depends largely on the domestic church.”

John Paul II, Familiaris Consortio 65.

On this webpage you will find information on sacramental preparation, marriage enrichment and parenting opportunities and a program for divorced, separated and singles. These varied and diverse opportunities are designed to support families so that they may truly become “A community of life and love.” (Familiaris Consortio 17).
